The Information Technology Group (ITG) provides support to faculty, staff, and students for the provision, use, and maintenance of technology and systems to support the teaching, learning, research and administrative needs of the Faculty of Engineering.
 
The Associate Director (Information Technology) is responsible for the leadership, efficient and effective day-to-day operation and long-term planning of the administrative and academic computing infrastructure in the Faculty of Engineering.  The Associate Director provides leadership, direction and technical support to the Faculty and is responsible for the operational management of the Information Technology Group (ITG) (staffing, budgeting, purchasing, and coordination of activities).  The Associate Director promotes and supports the introduction of new learning technologies while  collaborating with faculty members to understand their needs related to the design, redesign, development, implementation and support of online and blended learning courses in an effort to enable technology-enhanced teaching and learning.

The Associate Director works with the Assistant Dean (IT and eEducation) and the Dean in providing overall strategic planning and implementation of Information Technology initiatives, which are consistent with Campus-wide IT Technology strategies, University policies and regulations.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   University degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Management Information Systems,  Software Engineering, or relevant equivalent

Experience:
-   10 years' experience in Information Technology, including 5 years in a similar-sized enterprise environment (250 or more users, 1000 or more networked devices)
-   5 years' supervisory experience
-   Budgeting and financial experience
-   Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-   Ability to manage staff, assigning work priorities in order to meet customer expectations
-   Knowledge of computer system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and applications software
-   Installation and use of audio-visual equipment to support multi-media use in classrooms, labs, and meeting rooms
-   Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to provide presentations to faculty, staff and students
-   Ability to lead the delivery of systems and services to meet stakeholder needs
-   Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries from faculty, staff, or students
-   Ability and interest to stay abreast of technological advances in IT and Educational Technology
-   Ability to prepare planning and budget documents for use in annual planning
-   Critical thinking to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
-   Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
-   Ability to resolve problems and escalate issues with suggestions for further investigation and options for consideration as required
-   Ability to maintain and foster relationships within, across, and external to organizational boundaries
-   Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
-   Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines
