Mechanical Design Engineering Specialist – Power Pack Systems

Our major defense client in London Ontario is looking for a candidate with automotive design knowledge to join their team as a Mechanical Design Engineering Specialist, Power Pack Systems. This qualified candidate has a university degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2-5 yrs of engineering experience.

Required Qualifications

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering with a strong background in thermodynamics
• Minimum 2 years work experience designing cooling systems in the automotive or heavy vehicle industry.
• Experience with using 1D or 3D analytical tools when designing cooling systems and related components
• High analytical skills to solve problems at component, subsystem, and system/vehicle level
• Experience with mech. drawings, BOMs, engineering release procedures
• Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport


Job Responsibilities

• Utilize analytical techniques to develop and validate vehicle cooling system designs and specifications
• Generate multiple cooling system concepts and maintain analytical master models with accountability to meet cooling systems performance specifications
• Size and select heat exchangers and fans via 1D analysis tools
• Determine water circuit configurations including pump sizing, flow split balancing and pressure drop assessment
• Collaborate with other design groups to meet ambient temperature capability, fan power and noise requirements
• Support development of CFD models to understand air flow through heat exchangers and engine bay
• Support development of under hood thermal CFD models to predict component temperatures and cooling package air flow effects
• Participate and perform cooling/airflow tests and correlate analysis models
• Perform analysis to resolve cooling related field problems
• Responsible for the design, development, timing and Production release of the cooling system and components
• Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDP), prepare and present formal Design Reviews. Follow established procedures
• Support prototype builds, create test plans, execute tests and create test reports to validate designs, mitigate risks and/or troubleshoot problems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Computer aided engineering (CAD, FEA, Simulation )
• Hands-on practical experience in engineering for automotive cooling systems
• Experience in design and manufacture of on or off road vehicles or equipment
• General understanding of NX and TeamCenter

Candidates who are registered with PEO or are actively pursuing their P.Eng designation would be preferred, but not required.
