Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community. 
Responsibilities 

The Building Manager successfully coordinates and supports all relevant activities of the building service team with a special emphasis on cleaning and maintenance of facilities.  The incumbent is required to have excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with stakeholders including clients, students, residents, leaders and visitors as it relates to the cleanliness and building maintenance of the facility. The Building Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and supporting staff, resources and activities to meet established cleaning standards, and ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Building Services Unit. 

Qualifications 
Education:
-  College Diploma (minimum 3 year) in Business Administration, Engineering, Property Management or Hotel Management
-   University degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred
Experience:
-   3 years' progressive experience in building/property management, preferably in an academic setting
-   3 years' experience supervising staff in a unionized environment
-   Experience developing and deploying best practices, policies and procedures
-   3 years' experience in the caretaking and/or hospitality field preferred
 
Skills & Expertise:
-   Thorough knowledge of caretaking procedures, chemicals, equipment and building maintenance
-   Knowledge of Ontario Building and Fire Codes, American Hotel Association Standards, Landlord Tennant Act, Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act: Public Spas, APPA Building Standards
-   Knowledge of PeopleSoft (HR and Finance) is preferred; knowledge of maintenance management systems is required (Avantis is preferred)
-   Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders
-   Customer service focused with superior communication skills
-   Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities both for self and others effectively
-   Promotion of individual and group concepts of personal development through educational programs and training seminars to further enhance the staff's ability to grow in their careers
-   Emotional intelligence to ensure one's own work life balance, health and energy, and good collegial relationships are maintained
-   Confidence and assertiveness to ensure procedural guidelines and deadlines are met by the unit
-   Readiness to learn and grow within an innovative ever changing environment
