CNC LATHE PROGRAMMER/OPERATOR

Job Description

The CNC Lathe Programmer/Operator is responsible for set up and operation of CNC lathe machine(s) according to specifications and job instruction sheets, applying knowledge of machining methods while maintaining customer, company and ISO standards. They must also comply with company Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. The incumbent has demonstrated experience machining components to tight tolerances and is familiar with working independently on CNC programs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints and/or sketches of part to determine machining to be completed, dimensional specifications, set up and operating requirements;
  • Review specifications to determine set up procedure, machining sequence and dimensions of finished product;
  • Responsible for the selection and/or preparation of tooling for these operations when needed;
  • Ensure effective production of quality parts by checking drawings or sketches, using gauges and other measuring equipment;
  • Observe numerical displays on control panel and compare with data on process sheet for accuracy;
  • Assemble and pre-set tooling for next operation during automated cycle to reduce machine downtime;
  • Be able to perform quick change over for 1-offs and short production runs
  • May require set up and operation of a second machine during controlled machining cycles;
Qualifications
 
  • High School Diploma, with a minimum of two (2) years’ CNC Lathe Experience in a precision machining environment.
  • Completion of a General Machinist Apprenticeship would be helpful, but not required.
  • The incumbent has experience machining components to tight tolerances and can work independently.
  • Live tooling experience would be an asset.
  • Experience with Master Cam would be an asset
  • Experience with Okuma Controller an asset.
  • Must  be available for both Day and Afternoon Shifts as well be available for overtime as required.
