Job Description

Our client is currently seeking an experienced Operations Coordinator for their team.   This position will award an annual salary ranging from $95,000 to $130,000 depending on experience.   This full time, staff position offers great benefits, opportunity for growth and a fantastic total compensation package.

Position Summary: 
The Operations Coordinator leads the site operating shift teams in order to meet the production goals and product quality requirements, and to ensure operation of the units in a safe and environmentally-conscious manner.   This position plans, organizes, and directs day-to-day activities of the operating shift teams and loading operators, and implements long-term vision for production personnel standards and development.  Must have strong people management and development skills. Supports the site’s process safety program and demonstrates a commitment to EHS through personal action. 
 
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide support and leadership for the operations group, including direct supervision of Shift Supervisors and Loading Rack Technicians.
  • Through Shift Supervisors, ensure that production activities are scheduled and staffed appropriately to meet production volumes, shipments, and maintenance requirements.
  • Communications are a key metric. Shift team meetings will be held on a regular basis, at least quarterly with the shift teams and more frequently with the Team Supervisors.
  • Oversee raw material and chemical ordering to support production.  Maintain coordination with external raw material and utility suppliers.
  • Lead operations’ involvement in major maintenance/turnaround work scope, planning and scheduling. 
  • Manage the planning, organizing, and executing of unit preparation for maintenance.
  • Monitor and maintain recordkeeping of key process metrics to measure performance against production requirements and site manufacturing KPI’s.
  • Support the identification and execution of continuous improvement projects and initiatives
  • Sustain key organizational process including:
    • Consistent application of the Sarnia Site Collective Agreement, people practices, policies, and procedures for the Shift Teams.
    • Performance Management of shift organization including training/development of operators and Supervisors, formal reviews, and coaching/progressive discipline.
    • Manage operating procedures to ensure accuracy and consistent use and application of the procedures
  • Manage a strong Environmental/Health/Safety (EHS) culture in the operations group:
    • Ensure compliance to applicable government regulations and Company EHS standards, procedures and programs.
    • Member of the site Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).  Provide tactical input and support during emergencies as requested.
    • Effective operations participation in incident investigations, use of incident systems (KMS), root-cause identification, and implementation of follow-ups and learnings.
 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Demonstrated technical and operations competence with proven problem solving ability.
  • Demonstrated commitment toward health, safety, and the environment.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written including ability to translate business/management priorities into tasks appropriate to an operating unit.  Ability to develop and deliver operator training.
  • High level awareness and appreciation for quality management systems (Lab and ISO).
  • Ability to use good judgment with regard to people issues and absolute discretion with regard to confidential issues.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong results orientation and bias for action.
  • Strong people management and development skills are a must.
 Work Environment:
  • Must manage a continuous 7x24, unionized operation.
  • Multi-disciplinary environment requiring extensive team participation.  Considerable involvement in plant technical tasks such as troubleshooting, capital projects.  Works closely with Engineers on unit optimization and improvement.
  • Supports Operations Manager to set team goals, meet business needs, and budget.
  • High level awareness of supply chain management.  Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to manage logistics and customer complaint related issues.
  • Requires use of software tools (MS Excel, Word, SAP).
 Qualifications:
  • Preferred candidate will have post-secondary education in related fields of Chemical Process Technology or Engineering.
  • A minimum of 15 years Manufacturing/Operations experience. 5-7 years supervisory experience.
  • Must have 3rd Class Stationary Engineering certificate or be willing to acquire it.
