We are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer for our IT Services and Solutions firm located in Waterloo, Ontario.  The Linux Systems Engineer will work on a variety of projects, administration tasks, implementation of complex systems and monitoring of Storage (NAS/SAN) and Linux servers.  Our client is a leader is specialization on Linux and Open Source solutions and complex systems.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Create, modify and troubleshoot scripts on Red Hat Linux Servers
• Support clients on Open Systems, Windows and Virtual environments
• Support clients in Networking, Open Systems and Storage
• Support the company’s data centre and disaster recovery effort both on sit and in a virtual/remote setting
• Troubleshoot software and support network related technical operational and equipment issues
• Support after hours as required for mission critical applications 

Technical Experience and Qualifications: 

• Minimum 3 years of experience designing, implementing, managing and troubleshooting Linux or Unix, Networking and Storage systems in an enterprise environment.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
• Experience supporting standard Unix services (BIND, Sendmail, Postfix, NFS, FTP, SSH, etc.)
• Minimum of 2 years current experience supporting operation, administration and troubleshooting of Linux systems and Linux servers in a VMware environment.
• Understanding of file systems and logical volume management and optimizations.
• Experience with SAN fabrics and zoning (Brocade, Cisco FCOE).
• Experience with backup theories, technologies and software including disk-to-disk backups, tape backup technology and backup to cloud services.
• Experience backing up virtual and physical servers, workstations and storage.
• Red Hat Linux certifications preferred.
• Experience with configuring/supporting Apache/Tomcat a plus.
• Experience with Supercomputing (specifically Rocks) clusters.
• Programming skills in PHP, Python, C/C++, Java.
• Experience with technologies such as Zimbra, Zabbix, Puppet will be considered definite assets.
• Additionally, experience with IBM, Cisco, SuperMicro, NetApp, HP hardware platforms will also be considered as strong assets.
