Facilities Management is responsible for engineering, planning, development, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community.  Our integrated team provides excellence in creating and maintaining Western's facilities and in serving the community.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Facilities Development & Engineering, the Associate Director provides leadership to the mechanical, electrical, environmental and energy units.  The Associate Director is responsible for mechanical systems design and will oversee all aspects of the University's energy management program and operation of the environmental systems including:  computerized central control system (Western Environmental Systems Group - WES), heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, utility metering systems, all mechanical and energy design standards and preventative maintenance initiatives.  The Associate Director also acts as the University's Chief Operator in the Energy Management Program.  The role is a key contributor in the University's infrastructure management plan.

Qualifications
Education:
-   Must be a licensed Professional Engineer with a background in mechanical engineering and control systems

Experience:
-   At least eight (8) years' experience in leadership and environmental systems operation in large institutional facilities
-   Experience in staff supervision and working in collaborative team environments will be an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Ability to lead and manage large-scale mechanical and electrical engineering projects
-   Superior organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
-   Well-developed knowledge of applicable codes and standards for mechanical and control systems
-   Excellent knowledge of CCDC construction documents
-   Excellent knowledge of the principles of design applied in the engineering and construction of large complex institutional buildings (e.g. research, medical, or similar facilities)
-   Good knowledge of building codes and other applicable regulations
-   Ability to negotiate tender agreements, standards, costs, timelines, quality and other considerations with stakeholders, contractors and consultants
-   Superior interpersonal and analytical skills and the ability to build relationships and work well across all functions and areas
