Our client located in the Chatham area is in search of Project Manager – Electrical Controls background to join their team on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Electrical/ Controls Project Manager is responsible to manage capital projects including new product introductions, reconstruction projects, Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and provide business process development support as required.  This position has lead accountability for defining, prioritizing, managing the execution of electrical power and control systems strategies.  This role requires the ability to make significant decisions independently and as well as supporting and working as part of a team of other management and trades/technical professionals. This position requires hands on technical skills as well as contractor coordination skills, to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and with the designed quality and output rates.  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Accountable for strategic direction, specification review, support data acquisition and process control networks.
•    Review and approve electrical designs, component selection and coordination of electrical control and power installation across the entire facility.
•    Manage all aspects of assigned projects independently and/or in conjunction with another Project Manager(s).
•    Lead all aspects of the project management lifecycle of assigned projects, from project conception through project close out, ensuring project deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.
•    Ensure project risks are defined and mitigated within resource and budget constraints, including but not limited to safety, quality, financial, cost and performance.
•    Ensure Pre Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSHR) are completed and addressed prior to work commencing and/or prior to project close out. 
•    Manage cross functional teams in the development and installation of projects to ensure project goals and objectives are well documented and project concerns / issues are addressed. 
•    Responsible to develop and maintain electrical systems and maintenance documentation.
•    Develop and maintain a long-term strategy for power management. This includes transformer loading, distribution, coordinating high voltage work and upkeep of associated documentation.
•    Develop and maintain a long-term strategy for plant-wide control systems including platform and software.
•    Develop and maintain a long-term strategy for plant-wide process control communication systems including platform, software and data acquisition strategy. Also responsible for systems and documentation maintenance.
•    Provide clear direction to skilled trades personnel, including 3rd party contactors of work scope, priorities and ensure they are adhering to companies site and regulated policies and procedures.
•    Identify resource requirements to meet project deadlines and work with functional managers to assign resources to meet desired project timelines. 
•    Assist the Electrical/Controls Supervisor with the electrical trouble shooting of motors, valves, generators, switchgears, transformers, regulators, relays, circuit breakers, controls, conveyors, pulley systems and other machinery, as required. 
•    Assist with troubleshooting PLC instrumentation & controls on wide variety Industrial applications, as required.
•    Clearly communicate completed tasks and progress of project milestones and assigned duties to Management and project stakeholders.
•    Carry out other duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES 

Basic Requirements: 

•    Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Technology Diploma or related discipline
•    3-5 years’ experience in electrical engineering and/or related discipline, preference given to those who have direct experience with PLC, Electrical controls, Automation and Industrial network systems

Desired Skills: 

•    Completion of Electrician Trade Certification or related field, is an asset
•    The ability to recognize current and future business needs and develop cost effective and executable technical strategies/proposals in support of those needs
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environments
•    Good conceptual skills and ability to plan and organize on a large scale
•    The ability to assess individuals, as well as companies and their products
•    Ability to work overtime as needed to hit project deadlines
•    In depth knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code
•    Knowledge of and/ or experience with Allen-Bradley line of products
•    Experience with PLC and HMI programming
•    Experience in instrumentation and/or electronics 
•    Experience reading electrical prints and schematics
•    Knowledge of power distribution systems
•    Experience working on voltages up to 27 KV
•    Experience with maintenance of motor control circuits
•    Strong mechanical aptitude
•    Previous experience in a food processing industry an asset.
•    Previous experience working with a collective bargaining workforce is an asset. 
•    Proficiency with and ability to learn software systems including MS Office, SAP, AutoCAD 
•    Previous experience in a food processing industry an asset.
•    Previous experience working within a CFIA inspected facility an asset
•    Knowledge of HACCP and Provincial Health and Safety Regulations would be an asset
