Job Description
Our client is currently seeking a full time, experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for their team. This position offers a very competitive total compensation package with annual salary ranging from $105,000 to $150,000 depending on experience. Preference will be given to candidates who also possess a background in Industrial Hygiene.
Position Summary:
Provide leadership to the EHS Team and support to the site Leadership Team to maintain and achieve EHS excellence. Primary responsibility will be for the management of all key programs and initiatives related to EHS. This position is responsible for developing and promoting a healthy and safe work environment for all employees and contractors.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Lead EHS programs and promote involvement across all plant functions.
- Develop and monitor plans to ensure compliance of plant operations with government regulatory agency requirements relating to air, water, waste and associated health and safety including federal, provincial and local regulations.
- Oversee management of site permits, and on-time submittal of all regulatory reports.
- Lead and support the continual development of long range EHS strategies for the site, consistent with corporate and site goals and objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate site incidents, support incident investigations and promote accident prevention.
- Advise Sarnia Site leaders of new regulations being proposed or promulgated by government agencies and how they may impact our business.
- Liaise, cultivate and develop solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulators.
- Participate in community advisory panel and industrial associations and represent the company’s interest as appropriate.
- Assure Sarnia Site personnel are adequately trained in regulatory knowledge and responsibilities
- Lead, guide and coach key site EHS teams including site emergency response teams and Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Provide Leadership for site Management of Change processes for plant changes and/or additions.
- Responsible for industrial hygiene studies to identify potential health risks associated with overexposure to chemicals.
- Oversee the site routine and non-routine waste disposal programs.
- Responsible for site EHS spending including routine spending reviews with management and annual budget development.
- Direct the activities related to contract services for – security, fugitive emissions monitoring, environmental and process safety consulting services.
- Willing to take on special assignments and projects that may be outside the realm of EHS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Working knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations including environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching and mentoring skills.

- Demonstrated community relations experience and success.
- Ability to interpret EHS regulations and understand their applicability to the site operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Chemical Engineer with 8+ years related experience and continued professional development.
- OR 12+ years combination of education and related experience with continued professional development.
- Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience within Industrial Hygiene
