Business Intelligence Analyst

About the Role

As a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst, you will help develop and use tools and methods to collect, compile, model data to help decision-makers understand the big picture and make informed and timely decisions. Working under minimal supervision, the BI Analyst is responsible for applying statistical analysis to operational data in various systems to identify relationships, problems/issues within the data and provide areas for improvement.

You are comfortable and have relevant experience with management of information or business intelligence, information environments, databases, and the use of data. You are thorough, detail-oriented, work well with others to achieve shared objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a powerful blend of IQ (technical skills, consistent learning, statistical & financial acumen) and EQ (adaptive communication, empathy, listening skills, challenging with humility).

We are flexible for work location with this position, it can be remote, in the office or a mix of both. 

Specific Duties

  • Analyze data sets to uncover opportunities, new insights and recommend strategies to improve processes, practices, and departmental effectiveness.
  • Develop forecasting and modeling tools to identify trends, anomalies and causes and recommends proactive solutions.
  • Develop custom measures, using a variety of tools as appropriate (SQL, DAX, Python, R, others) 
  • You will apply your curiosity and skills to clarify business, data, and analytical requirements, and help develop appropriate solutions
  • Provides a centralized source of business metrics for management to make informed business decisions.
  • Collect, cleanse, curate, combine and manipulate data from multiple relevant sources.
  • Provides input into the development and maintenance of accurate metrics.
  • Analyzes financial information and other data to develop and monitor business performance metrics.
 

Skills & Requirements

  • BA/BSc degree in Mathematics, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a quantitative Social Science field, or post-secondary degree coupled with a focused Data Science certificate from a recognized institution.
  • Advanced knowledge on retrieving, transforming, and displaying data within Qliksense, Tableau, MS PowerBI, Excel, MS Access, and PowerPoint. VBA Macros knowledge would be an asset.
  • 2+ years work experience, possibly including coop terms and in some aspect of data science, data engineering or data management
  • While your experience includes MS PowerBI, SQL, and Python, you may have also worked other related tools (other visualization tools, report writers, ETL tools, database modeling tools, etc.) for the purpose of data mining, staging, storing, reporting, and providing business insights.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and translate data and technical details into business terms.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions, and proactively propose solutions, identify relationships, and solve problems.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally in a rapidly changing business environment.
