Junior Mechanical Engineer

Position Type:  Permanent position 
Start Date:  Immediate
Location:  Safran Electrical Components Canada Inc., London, Ontario

Education:  Mechanical Engineering diploma or University degree in Mechanical Engineering

Mandatory:  Must meet all security requirements of the Controlled Goods Program, including Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident and a clear Criminal Record

Job Summary

Mechanical Engineer to provide efficient solutions to the development of processes and products, ranging from small component designs to assemblies that are more complex. Is able to work on all stages of a product, from research and development to design and manufacture, through to release.

Skills & Qualifications
 
  • College/University education in Mechanical engineering
  • 1-2 years experience in Hydraulic, Military and or Aerospace industry would be an asset
  • Proficient in Autocad and Inventor
  • Highly proficient in MS Office – Excel, Word.  Knowledge of Lotus Notes an asset.
  • Machining, welding and brazing knowledge
  • Tube bending and processing knowledge
  • Assembly processing knowledge
  • Lean Manufacturing as asset
  • English fluency with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and prepare sketches and write technical reports
  • Ability to interpret specifications, prepare contracts, estimate costs and materials
  • Ability to complete documentation packages and drawing sets, examine drawings for conformity and errors
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication
  • High level of technical and scientific knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems;
  • Good oral communication skills and confidence in dealing with a wide range of people, including clients, designers, directors and plant operators;
  • Precise and concise written communication skills;
  • Ability to work well within a team;
  • IT skills, particularly computer-aided design;
  • Creative ability;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Organisational skills, such as time and resource planning.

Job Responsibilities
 
  • Design and development of cost-effective components and modifications to help improve safety and reliability;
  • Develop and prepare sketches and write technical reports;
  • Interpret specifications, prepare contracts, estimate costs and materials;
  • Completing documentation packages, drawing sets, examine drawings for conformity and errors;
  • Developing, testing and evaluating prototype designs;
  • Discussing and solving complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;
  • Making sure a product can be made reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments;
  • Managing projects using engineering principles and techniques;
  • Planning and designing new production processes;
  • Producing details of specifications and outline designs;
  • Recommending modifications following prototype test results;
  • Using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modelling and computer-aided design;
  • Considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and end use;
  • Working with other professionals within and outside of the Engineering Dept.
