Special Events Program Planner - Summer Student

SPECIAL EVENTS PROGRAM PLANNER - SUMMER STUDENT POSITION(S)
(2 POSITIONS)
The primary role of the Special Events Program Planner will be to assist with a large-scale backpack drive that is organized by the Thames Valley Education Foundation. The Special Events Program Planner will support all organizational aspects of the program including media writing and events, social media promotion, collection and organization of donations and supplies, working with volunteers and community partners, backpack distribution (working with school Principals and communities) and donor stewardship.
The Best First Day backpack program is a collaboration between the Thames Valley Education Foundation, and the United Way Elgin-Middlesex, and provides thousands of backpacks to children and youth all over the district.
Candidates should have an interest in nonprofit and community development, must be detailed oriented, and are skilled communicators with a passion for building community partnerships. Candidates should be proficient in computer applications such as Outlook 365 and MS Office Suite, should have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and must speak and write in English fluently. Experience with special event planning and use of social media platforms would be an asset.
Some evening hours required, and hours would be flexed so no more than 35 hours are worked a week.
This role is in-person and having a driver's license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
Qualifications:
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant. Only youth ages 15-30 years may be eligible applicants.
Dates of Employment: 2025 July 2 – 2025 August 29
Location: 1250 Dundas Street, London
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Monday-Friday: 8:30am – 4:30 pm
Rate of Pay: $17.20 per hour + 4% vacation pay
Expiry Date: 2025 May 16
