The Information Technology Group (ITG) provides cost-effective technology solutions and support to faculty, staff, and students for the provision, use, and maintenance of information technology and systems to support the teaching, learning, research and administrative needs of the Faculty of Engineering.
 
The Technical Specialist (eLearning/Web Developer) has primary responsibility for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of Engineering web resources. They will act as the Webmaster for the Faculty of Engineering.

The incumbent provides application development expertise for projects within Engineering including designing, building, and implementing new web pages and sites, integrating with other applications, migrating legacy applications, and enhancing the eLearning environment by using various technologies.

The Technical Specialist will play a leadership role in Engineering for eLearning and web development and promote and support the introduction of new learning technologies while collaborating with faculty members to design, redesign, develop, implement and support online and blended education courses.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   Community College Diploma in Computer Science or Software Engineering
-   Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering is preferred

Experience:
-   2 years' experience in an enterprise environment of 250 or more users, 1000 or more networked devices
-   2 years' previous programming, web and content management experience
-   1 year working with eLearning technologies
-   Experience working in higher education is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-   Knowledge of Web technologies, protocols, and tools including content management systems (CMS) such as Cascade, learning management systems (LMS) such as Sakai; IIS
-   Installation, management, and maintenance of servers including Windows and Linux, and VMware
-   In-depth working knowledge of Windows Servers and HTML
-   Knowledge and understanding of educational technologies
-   Ability to research, evaluate and recommend viability of new technologies and innovations in eLearning
-   Strong understanding of programming languages to support web, including .NET, .ASP, PHP, HTML. VB, C++. Scripting with PowerShell
-   Installation and maintenance of desktop and portable client devices (Windows, Mac, mobile)
-   Ability to work with customers to define and implement solutions as part of a project team
-   Ability to deliver direct customer service in response to faculty, staff, or student problems/requests
-   Knowledge of computer system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and applications software
-   Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical users
-   Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
-   Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
-   Ability to carry out work off hours as required
-   Able to work independently on tasks after appropriate training and with guidance
-   Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
-   Demonstrated ability to conduct training sessions and instruct others on areas of expertise
-   Ability to resolve problems and escalate issues with suggestions for further investigation and options for consideration
-   Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines
-   Ability to maintain and foster relationships within, across, and external to organizational boundaries
