Position Summary:

The incumbent is primarily responsible for manufacturing (process) engineering development and support within the plant for both new business growth as well as existing production. These responsibilities include conceptualizing and defining new and/or modified processes and equipment.  Additional responsibilities include process, tooling and equipment development (prototype and production) to strive for flawless launch of new products to production; on-going support to production including continuous improvement projects resulting in productivity improvement, scrap and waste reduction. Other key requirements are Process troubleshooting, 8D support to Quality and creating and maintaining accurate and timely documentation in support of new and existing production.  Depending upon the level of related experience, the incumbent may require technical coaching and supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements:

·         Degree/Diploma in engineering, preferably manufacturing

·         3 – 5 years of experience, preferably in the manufacture of rubber/elastomeric products

·         Strong technical problem solving/analytical skills and mechanical aptitude

·         Experience in advanced engineering/statistical problem solving methods

·         Experience with various software packages such as AutoCAD, UG, Solid Works, Catia5

·         Knowledge of Six Sigma methodology and Design of Experiments (DOE)

·         Ability to create and maintain Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEA)

·         A working knowledge of Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) would be an asset

·         Ability to understand engineering drawings and tooling drawings, GD&T

·         Capable of learning elastomer compound characteristics, products and processes

·         Must exhibit good communication, project management and interpersonal skills and, given some direction, have the ability to manage his/her own priorities and workload while working in a team environment.

·         Willing to travel to customers, suppliers, and other FNGP sites, as necessary

Coordinates With:

·         Engineering Manager, Process Engineering Manager, Materials and Aerospace Program Managers, Tool Engineer, and other Engineering personnel; Materials Lab, Operations Manager, Team Leaders and Production Associates; Quality Department, Sales/Marketing, customers and suppliers.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

·         To conceptualize, design and model products to customer specification and inputs.

·         To conceptualize and develop lean manufacturing processes for new and existing business opportunities, which may include new and/or modified plant, equipment and process needs.

·         Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, leading the development of prototype and production processes and equipment to achieve a flawless production launch.

·         Lead continuous improvement projects to reduce cost, improve productivity, reduce scrap/waste, and provide daily support to production, including 8D support.

·         Create and maintain accurate engineering/process documentation such as BOMs and routers, molding specifications, Process Flow diagrams, Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), etc.

·         Adhere to company policies, safety/ergonomic standards and good manufacturing practices (GMP).

·         Participate in new product/process development establishing manufacturing processes and procedures and providing technical expertise and support to manufacturing

·         Trouble shoot equipment, tooling, and materials for samples and production runs

·         Manage new product launch activities (pmPoint)

·         Understand and integrate company health, safety and environmental policies into daily work activities

·         Promote safety, environmental and ergonomic initiatives

·         Perform necessary functions in conjunction with appropriate quality standards (ie. QS9000, AS9100)

·         All other related duties, as assigned.

Working Environment:    

·         Work schedule in office environment with moderate noise levels and production environment with moderate to loud noise levels, near moving mechanical equipment.

·         Flexible work hours.

·         Some travel.

Physical Requirements: 

·         Visual requirements include:  close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

·         Work schedule includes sitting, standing, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.

·         Speaking and hearing sufficient for understanding, required.

·         Must have sufficient manual dexterity to use hands and fingers in keyboarding.
