Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. The Education Centre is located in Brantford. 

The Board is seeking a dynamic and strategic Communications professional to join us as Manager of Communications. 

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Education, the Manager of Communications will be responsible for the following:
  • Developing and implementing the overall communications strategy for the Board under the direction of the Director of Education
  • Internal and external communication including print, board website and social media
  • Preparation of newsletters, reports and messages on behalf of the Director of  Education
  • Providing strategic communication counsel to Senior Administration
  • Management of media relations and issues including serving as the Board’s spokesperson or supporting others in this role
  • Implementation and management of the Board’s Strategic Communications Plan
  • Implementation of the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan
  • Management of the Board’s marketing and advertising efforts
  • Management of various policies and procedures
  • Development of working relationships with various committees and the community with the purpose of fostering positive communications and community relations
  • Managing system-wide communication
  • Managing the reception, switchboard/telephone system and mail room
  • Managing the board-wide courier system
  • Planning and delivery of special events
  • Management of the Board’s website
  • Management of emergency and time-sensitive communications matters
  • Assisting school administrators with public relations and communications issues in conjunction with the superintendent of schools
  • Other communication and public relations duties as assigned by the Director of  Education
  • Attendance at evening Board meetings and events will be required
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Accreditation in public relations is preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant and progressive experience, preferably in the public sector
  • Expertise in the use of all types of social media
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience in media relations, community relations, internal communication, or the equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed by the Board
 
Job Specifications
Hours of Work 7 hours per day/35 hours per week
Rate of Pay $128,870 - $136,319
