The successful candidate will initially work from home, and this full time, permanent role will be based out of downtown London when it is safe to return to our offices.

Job Summary

The Law Clerk is a member of Canaccede’s operating team. The Law Clerk, under the direction of the Associate Director, Legal Services, will primarily be responsible for preparing and filing court documents associated with Ontario Court proceedings, communicating with court staff, process servers and other parties involved in the legal proceedings, including defendants and their representatives as required.  

What does a typical day look like?

  • Draft legal correspondence and court forms, including without limitation, Statements of Claim, Default Judgment, Motions, Writs and Garnishments
  • Work with all members of our Legal Recoveries Team and other members of our organization to ensure appropriate files are being recommended and approved for legal action
  • Review files to ensure proper supporting documentation is available for legal proceeding
  • Prepare payout statements, releases, and required legal documentation for finalizing legal matters  
  • Communicate and co-ordinate with paralegals across Ontario (and Canada where applicable) to ensure company representation at Hearings and to determine optimal strategic course of action
  • Communicate and co-ordinate with process servers across Ontario (and Canada where applicable) to schedule service of legal documentation
  • Support Legal Recoveries Manager in working with debtors or their representatives to complete settlement discussions, and/or respond to all aspects of legal proceedings
  • Maintain legal reports and trackers
  • Monitor changing laws, court decisions, legislation, and regulations to ensure continued compliance with all requirements and best practices
  • Act as liaison with third-party vendors regarding status of legal of proceedings
  • Perform general office and clerical duties, as applicable

What qualifications are required for this position?

  • Law Clerk Diploma
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in legal industry (collections experience an asset)
  • Experience in Superior Court procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to complete all Ontario Superior Court forms
  • Familiarity with collection laws in Ontario (experience in other provinces an asset)
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • High level of integrity and work ethic

This permanent full-time role requires availability during core hours of operation (Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM).
