POSITION SUMMARY:

The Systems Operating Specialist maintains, monitors, and supports the corporate computer systems and corporate applications related to Payroll Services, Human Resource Services, Financial Services and Facility Services. The Systems Operating Specialist will research, evaluate, design, integrate, install maintain, monitor and support corporate and academic applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and implement new information technologies and solutions with our customers
  • Integrate systems solutions with situational stakeholders, and provide technical support
  • Administer SaaS offerings, cloud technologies and online platforms, on-premises infrastructure (software, hardware, storage area network, vendor relationships)
  • Develop in-house information technology solutions to resolve a need within the organization
  • Train others and provide guidelines for IT processes and supported applications

Work Performed:
  • Install, upgrade and monitor corporate database systems
  • Liaise with clients in other organizational units to ensure functionality and integration of software
  • Consult with vendors regarding product developments and installations
  • Complete data back-up and restore systems
  • Design and execute change management functions as required for audit purposes
  • Resolve complex problems related to database and operating systems
  • Coordinate project teams required to perform system changes
  • Design, configure and implement appropriate monitoring systems
  • Manage access to corporate servers
  • Advise and assist with data archives
  • Provide backup support to department staff
  • Participate as required in groups and committees
  • Advise and assist the Help Desk staff
  • Provide recommendations to the supervisor regarding capacity planning and emerging technologies
  • Research, evaluate, design, integrate, install, maintain, monitor and support corporate and academic applications
  • Manage storage area network, on-premises and cloud-based Software, Infrastructure and Platforms as a Service Solution
  • Research technology needs of the departments, evaluate potential software or platform choices based on their requirements, and plan and coordinate with varying stakeholders to ensure the work is performed within and satisfies the requirements
  • Setup, manage, configure and ensure optimal delivery and maintenance of failover power generation systems, including battery and liquid/compressed fuel generators

Qualities/Skills/Specialized Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with data centre design, implementation, maintenance of hardware, supporting systems, network infrastructure daemons (DNS, Web Servers, DHCP, SMTP, etc.), COBIT framework,  and programming
  • Knowledge of Storage, Server, and Database Server Administration, and Project, Systems, and Information Security Management
  • Proficient in computer systems and applications such as Outlook 365, MS Office Suite, etc. including specialised knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems, Microsoft QL Server, Microsoft Active Director, web servers, cloud services, e-mail systems, network services, backup and recovery tools
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team

Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Completion of a three (3) year post-secondary program in a computer related field or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of related work experience is required
  • Information Security Management, Network Storage Administrator, MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure experience is an asset
