YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada, offers settlement services to newcomers to Canada, operates 2 overnight camps and 16 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario, and we have been making a positive difference in the communities we serve for over 50 years!
The YMCA is seeking a high energy individual who is passionate, outgoing and who will promote both fun and safety. Those chosen for this position will closely work with the youth the Chatham-Kent community to provide a safe space for youth to develop skills, engage in healthy relationships, develop healthier habits, participate in community-based opportunities, and use the YMCA amenities. The youth drop-in staff will be responsible for youth safety, enjoyment, solving problems and dealing with conflicts as they arise.
Position: Youth Engagement Staff (June – August 2024)
Location: Multiple locations and positions
Schedule: Monday – Friday 3:30-9:30pm
- Saturday – 10:00am-3:00pm

Start Date: June 24, 2024
Salary: $18.00/hour

4% Vacation earnings on each pay

In this role, you will:
Create an energetic, professional, safe, and fun environment during programming
Develop healthy relationships with drop-in youth
Deliver youth drop-in programming and registered programming while incorporating youth voice
Set-up and take down of activities/equipment
Provide supervision of youth during program hours
Provide guidance for conflict resolution between youth participants
Implement and remind youth of the Respect Contract
Complete sign-in with youth to collect data of participation numbers, memberships and pass usage
Be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
Embrace and exemplify the Y’s core values
Education and Skills Qualifications:
Excellent communication and relationship building skills
Experience working with youth aged 13-18
Restorative Justice experience an asset
Participation in Mental Health First Aid (training provided)
Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Position Screen is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
Current standard First Aid and CPR
Legally entitled to work in Canada
